Clawhammer Road to Avery Creek Trail

Another classic Pisgah mountain bike ride, the climb up Clawhammer Mountain Rd is a tough fire road climb on gravel, and ends at Buckhorn Gap. From there, a single-track climb up Black Mountain trail takes you to the ridge, and a burly descent to Avery Creek trail.

•Park at the Pisgah Ranger Station on US 276
•Right from parking lot on US 276
•Right onto Avery Creek Rd (FS 477) (look for the horse stable signs)
•Right onto Clawhammer Rd (FS 5058) at the back
of the horse stable parking lot
•Stay straight on Clawhammer Rd until you reach
the top
•Left on Black Mountain Trail; stay straight until you
reach Club Gap
•Left on Avery Creek Trail
•Right on Buckhorn Gap Trail at the bottom of
Avery Creek Trail
•Left on Avery Creek Rd (FS 477)
•Left on US 276 and return to Ranger Station
