Cycle North Carolina is returning to Brevard this summer with their third annual Mountain Ride on Aug. 13 and 14. The two-day cycling festival has rides for all cyclists; from 5-mile tours around town to a challenging 75-mile cruise through the mountains. It’s a great weekend event for any outdoor enthusiast.
Cycle NC is a division of North Carolina Amateur Sports. The group’s mission is to promote physical fitness and health, provide economic impact and publicity to rural communities across the state while showcasing the beauty of North Carolina.
The organization’s 14th annual Mountains To The Coast ride started in Brevard in 2012. More than 1,100 riders started at Brevard College and made their way to Carolina Beach, camping along the way. Brevard College will be used as a base camp for this year’s festival, with indoor and outdoor accommodations for camping, including parking for RVs, although there will be no power or water hookups available.
The rides are fully supported with rest stops, support vehicles and mechanics to help visiting cyclists concentrate on enjoying Brevard and their ride. Cycle NC expects about 500 riders this year for the Mountain Ride, and many riders will bring their families to town for a weekend of music, beer and riding. Oskar Blues Brewery has committed to using their trolley to shuttle people around town for the weekend, and the city of Brevard will play host with a number of activities ranging from live music to events at Oskar Blues.
